 Lab Guidelines

  1. Unless otherwise stated, all labs should be submitted electronically to www.turnitin.com

  2. All labs are due by 11:59 pm on the date stated by the instructor

  3. If you experience problems with turnitin, you should email the instructor immediately AND print a copy of the lab to bring in to the next day's class.  This shows that you did in fact complete the assignment.

  4. Anytime you submit an assignment to turnitin, you will get a "receipt" in your email.  Please keep all receipts until you have received a grade for the assignment.  If there is ever a discrepancy or problem, you have a receipt proving that you submitted the assignment.

  5. Late Policy:  On labs, 10 points are deducted per day late for lab reports.

  6. For group labs, ALL STUDENTS are responsible for the lab being turned in on time.  Individual parts are due 1 day before the due date.  If the lab is not turned in in full, all students will be penalized, and the person at fault will receive a zero for the lab.

7.          Your lab report should contain (in this order):

1.      Lab titles, date of experiment, and lab partners

2.      Purpose of Lab

3.      Paragraph explaining theory or background for the experiment

4.      List of materials used

5.      Procedure: write up a summary of the original procedure in paragraph form in your own words

6.      Data: original measurements and charts

7.      Analysis: calculations and graphs needed to reach a conclusion

8.      Conclusion: What did you learn?  Did you fulfill the purpose of the lab?  Don’t tell me what you did in the lab!!!

9.      See me for a prototype of what an exceptional lab notebook looks like.

Formal Lab Report Guidelines

The formal lab report should contain:

1.      A cover page with your name, date the experiment was

       performed, and lab partners

2.      All the same pieces of the report as in the lab notebook, but

with more elaborate wording, as well as a more expansive

       background and conclusion.

3.      The entire report should be typed and double-spaced, no

larger than 12 pt. fonts. No ridiculous fonts, please!

4.   For a prototype of an exceptional formal lab, please see me.
